The block step, unlike a stair cladding, is a solid piece the thickness of the step (generally 14 to 18 cm). This type of product in natural stone or natural materials is distinguished by its full shape and uniform surface. The block steps are laid directly on the ground in an outdoor staircase, straight, with clean edges, without gluing, and offer a durable finish. They are equally suitable for a garden wall as for an entrance or a sloping descent. They can be made of granite, limestone, gneiss, travertine, or sandstone, depending on the product. These block steps can also be combined with risers or matching slabs for a harmonious result.

The block step is solid: there is neither risk of detachment, nor risk of calcite seepage from mortar between the tread and the riser, as there is with a cladding solution. This type of natural piece is perfectly suited to straight staircases, simple and durable. It also fits in very well in a wall or a sloping garden.

The look of the block step is generally more aesthetic, especially at the edges, which are often worked according to the chosen finish.

Its direct laying in lean concrete allows you to save on the overall cost of the works. This natural product guarantees optimal stability, even without formwork. It is often used in landscaping options for outdoor steps or natural staircases in sandstone, slate, petrified wood, or beige natural stone.

For a complete set, you can combine it with slabs of the same stone or risers to create a coherent staircase and attractive.

The installation of block steps must be carried out on a stable base. It is important to lay each block straight, with regular checks of the level and alignment.

Products in granite, limestone, or gneiss, available in stock, are easily laid on a mortar bed or lean concrete.

Remember to provide a slight slope on top of the step to facilitate water drainage.

The choice of product depends on the use (garden access, pool edge, house entrance), the desired look (textured, flamed, sandblasted) and the type of natural material (Kandla sandstone, travertine, basalt, etc.).

The care taken with the edges, the surface, and the consistency of the natural stones ensures a successful integration into any exterior wall or garden.

Adding slabs in the same finishes allows a more complete installation and enhances the whole outdoor landscaping.

To clean natural stone block steps, use a low-pressure water jet (avoid high pressure which damages the joints).

Apply a natural cleaning product such as Lithofin Exterior, possibly with a brush if the piece is very dirty.

In the case of moss or algae on the surface, use the Allex product diluted, leave it to work for 15 days then rinse.

Good maintenance extends the service life of natural steps and preserves the appearance of the top. It is particularly recommended for outdoor staircases, pool copings, borders, or natural stone wall edges.

The choice of material also influences the ease of maintenance: granite, gneiss, or dense limestone are less porous and therefore easier to clean.

The slabs, if they are matched to the block steps, must be maintained in the same way to keep an aesthetic uniformity.

The block steps mainly come in 120 cm format (standard), but also in 100 cm and 150 cm. The depth is 35 cm, the thickness is 15 cm.
