All about natural stone outdoor pavers
Our natural stone outdoor pavers come in several materials such as sandstone, granite, or travertine, with aged, cleft, or honed finishes. They adapt to all your outdoor landscaping projects: garden, patio, driveway, or border. We offer a large stock with fast delivery and an advisory service to help you choose the best thickness, the ideal shade, and the installation
method suited to your soil and environment. Discover our tips for maintaining and laying your pavers and take advantage of our regular promotional offers.
A paver is a floor covering that is both compact and durable, perfect for the outdoor landscaping of your terraces, gardens, courtyards or paths. At Minéral, we offer a wide choice of outdoor pavers in natural stone: Kandla sandstone, travertine, granite, porphyry, Burgundy stone or even Belgian Blue Stone. Each material is chosen for its strength, its longevity and its authentic look. You can choose pavers that are cleft, aged (tumbled), flamed or brushed, offering styles that are both modern or traditional. Our models are available in stock, in several shades (beige, black, grey, multicoloured...), with fast delivery throughout France. Looking for a durable and elegant floor? Discover our offers on outdoor pavers to make your outdoor spaces shine.
Laying outdoor pavers is generally done on a stabilised sand bed, ideal for your terrace, garden path or pedestrian access projects. Here are the main steps:
- Prepare a level surface with a compacted sub-base (hardcore or gravel).
- Add a layer of sand of 4 to 6 cm (or more depending on the thickness of the pavers).
- Lay the pavers in natural stone with tight joints or spaced joints depending on the desired look.
- Fill the joints with fine sand or a stabilised mix.
See our complete guide to laying pavers.
Our pavers in stock are supplied with precise product references to help you with installation. For an optimal result, feel free to consult our technical advice or contact our teams in store.
The paver format directly influences the look of your outdoor area. For a traditional style, small square formats (10x10 or 14x14 cm) are ideal for courtyards, gardens or paths. For a contemporary paving design, we recommend rectangular pavers or opus modules, perfect for terraces.
At Minéral, we offer outdoor pavers in various formats, depending on the material: Kandla sandstone, travertine or porphyry. Each product has a reference, a suitable thickness and available stock. Whether you are looking for an old-style or modern look, our wide range adapts to all your outdoor paving needs.
The thickness of an outdoor paver depends on its use:
- 3 to 5 cm for a terrace or a pedestrian area (decorative use).
- 5 to 8 cm for a driveable entrance or a light-vehicle driveway.
- 7 to 10 cm for intensive use (parking, truck traffic).
Our selection includes natural stone pavers in different thicknesses, available in stock for fast delivery. Each material (sandstone, travertine...) has its technical characteristics, with or without aged finish or cleft finish.
For your projects, rely on our product sheets or contact our teams for personalized advice. You can also combine the pavers with edgings, slabs or accessories to harmonize your garden or terrace.
The maintenance of natural stone pavers is essential to preserve their original appearance, whether they are in Kandla sandstone, travertine or porphyry. To ensure the durability of your outdoor pavers, it is important to adopt the right habits:
- Sweep regularly to avoid the build-up of plant residue, moss or debris that can retain water.
- Avoid overly powerful high-pressure washers or aggressive products (hydrochloric acid, bleach) that can damage the surface of the stone, especially aged (tumbled), cleft or brushed finishes.
- Prefer professional cleaning products for natural stone, designed to respect the porosity of the materials.
- For pavers in travertine or light limestone, apply a water- and oil-repellent sealer after installation, to limit the absorption of greasy stains or moisture.
At Minéral, you will find suitable maintenance accessories as well as personalised advice in store to prolong the beauty of your outdoor floors.
To make your outdoor space a success, it is crucial to anticipate the number of pavers to order, depending on the surface area, the formats, and the type of laying chosen (straight laying, staggered, opus, etc.).
Let's take an example with a 14 x 14 cm paver in Kandla sandstone. Its unit surface area is 0.0196 m² (0.14 x 0.14). To cover 1 m², you therefore need:
1 / 0.0196 = approximately 51 pavers/m².
This calculation may vary depending on the planned grouting (tight laying or spaced) and the end use: terrace, courtyard, garden path. For optimised installation, allow for 5 to 10% extra depending on the complexity of the laying (cutting, waste).
All our pavers in stock are delivered with their product reference, the number of pieces per m² and per pack/pallet, to simplify your estimates and keep control of your budget. Do not hesitate to request a personalised offer from our advisers.
Well-executed ground preparation guarantees the stability and longevity of your pavers, whether they are in sandstone, travertine or another natural stone. Here are the technical steps to follow:
- Excavation of the ground to 20 to 40 cm depending on use (pedestrian or vehicular), with a 2 % slope for water drainage.
- Laying a sub-base or foundation made of compacted all-in aggregate (type 0/31.5 or 0/63), 15 to 30 cm thick.
- Laying an anti-contamination geotextile, which blocks soil or weeds from coming up and improves permeability.
- Laying a bedding layer of stabilized sand (0/4 or 0/6 crushed) of about 4 to 5 cm.
- Leveling and compaction using a vibrating plate.
This load-bearing structure prevents any settlement, even in case of frost or regular passage of light vehicles. We offer in stock all
of the laying materials, as well as matching edgings to hold them in place.
The sand bed is an essential base layer to ensure the stability of your outdoor pavers. Its thickness varies according to the intended use and the nature of the product:
- For a pedestrian terrace or a garden path, a thickness of 4 to 5 cm is sufficient.
- For vehicle access, or in the case of soft ground, we recommend a thickness of 6 to 8 cm, combined with a more robust foundation layer.
- It is important to use washed crushed sand of uniform grain size (0/4 or 0/6 mm), which offers good drainage.
The sand bed is then stabilised and screeded on a levelled base, before laying the pavers.
At Minéral, we support you in choosing the right laying materials, available at a branch or via our direct-to-site delivery service.
All our pavers in stock are compatible with this traditional method, for a durable and neat result.
To find out the amount of sand in m³ needed for the installation of your natural stone pavers, simply apply a simple formula:
Sand volume (m³) = Area (m²) x Bed thickness (cm) ÷ 100
Example: to cover an area of 40 m² with a thickness of 5 cm, the calculation is:
40 x 5 ÷ 100 = 2 m³ of sand.
This volume may vary depending on the type or the installation method (dry-bed installation or bonded installation), and the expected level of compaction.
At Minéral, our experts advise you on the exact quantities, the right products in stock, and the accessories needed for installation (geotextile, borders, etc.).
For a garden path, the paver is the ideal solution: it is robust, attractive and offers good water drainage. Several options are available depending on your tastes and the style you are looking for:
- The Kandla sandstone (grey or multicolored) is very popular: its aged look, its frost resistance and its varied formats make it a safe choice.
- The travertine, with its light shades and its honed texture, is perfect for creating a Mediterranean atmosphere in your garden.
- Granite pavers or porphyry offer a more graphic and long-term resistant alternative, ideal for pedestrian paths or high-traffic passages.
Also remember to choose a suitable thickness, and to prepare the ground properly (stabilization, edgings).
At Minéral, you will find all the installation accessories, the technical advice and the products on promotion to make your project a success.
The price of outdoor pavers varies according to many technical criteria and aesthetic ones. In general, a natural stone paver costs between 40 and 150 €/m², depending on the type of stone, the finish, the format and the thickness. This price may be higher for made-to-measure pavers, pavers that are very resistant or have rare shades.
Kandla sandstone, beige travertine or porphyry offer very different looks, from the most rustic to the most modern, with products in stock in various colors (beige, black, white, multicolor…).
Here are the main factors influencing the price of pavers:
- The format: a 5x5 cm paver is often cheaper than a large 20x20 cm format or a thick paving slab.
- The thickness: for a vehicle-accessible area, a thickness of 6 to 10 cm is preferred, therefore more expensive than a thin decorative paver (2-3 cm).
- The finish: raw, cleft, aged, flamed, bush-hammered, honed or sandblasted… The labor required for the finish directly impacts the price of the finished product.
- The nature of the stone: some rocks such as granite, being very dense, are more expensive than soft stones such as sandstone or certain limestones.
- The visual appearance: a very veined stone, with a wood look or an antique texture, will generally be more elaborately worked, and therefore more expensive.
At Minéral, we offer a complete range of natural stone pavers for the outside of your garden, your terrace, your courtyard or your borders, with fast delivery and regular promotional offers. Our product references always specify the area per pallet, the dimensions, and the recommended installation.
