Natural stone is without a doubt one of the best choices for covering stairs, as can be seen in prestigious hotels and other public spaces.

By opting for natural stone to design a staircase, it is possible to make large steps, often exceeding 2 meters in length, which reduces the number of joints required.

We also offer a more economical standard option for steps, generally measuring 120 cm in length. It is also possible to use pool coping stones as a covering for stair steps. With a smaller size (generally 60 cm in length), they are offered at a more attractive price per piece, which makes it easier to create easily transportable elements.

In addition, we offer made-to-measure options for larger dimensions or single-piece elements, without any joint, in particular for spiral staircases, for example.

As natural stone is a solid material, it is perfectly possible to apply a similar finish to that of the steps themselves, both on the step nosing (the thickness visible at the front of the step) and on the risers. By contrast, porcelain stoneware or reconstituted products such as concrete or reconstituted stone do not offer the same neat aesthetic for step nosings, which generally stand out by a slightly different shade.

Natural stone can have a thickness of 3 cm, 4 cm or 5 cm, which gives a solid look to the whole staircase. In addition, with thick steps, you benefit from a better inertia and a greater resistance to temperature variations, thus avoiding debonding and joint cracking.

The choice of color, finish and grout joint is also important.

In terms of value for money, natural stone offers excellent value, unlike many industrial products whose prices are often exorbitant.

  • The cladding : Ideal when you want to clad an existing reinforced concrete staircase, the cladding is easy to install and generally lightweight. You can choose either steps that we keep in stock, or made-to-measure steps tailored to each project.
  • Block step: The block step is solid and presents no risk of detachment or of mortar calcite seepage between the tread and the riser, unlike other cladding options.

In addition, the block step generally offers a more attractive appearance, and the visible parts on the sides of the steps no longer need to be clad. Given its stability, the block step can be laid directly in lean concrete, without requiring the construction and the reinforcement of a concrete staircase. It is a product ideal for creating steps in an embankment, as it does not necessarily require foundations. It is the most robust system available on the market.

  • Landing steps: Landing steps are large square slabs about 8 cm thick, allowing a staggered installation. They are ideal for the entrance of a house and give your entrance a modern look.

The choice of natural stone will depend on the style you are looking for, your budget and the architecture of your home. The wide choice of natural stone types (granite, sandstone, travertine, basalt,  limestone…), formats and colors allows you to personalize your space to your taste.

One of the main strengths of natural stone lies in its diversity, which gives you the opportunity to find what you like and what best suits your layout.

Each finish brings a distinctive touch to natural stone. Depending on your choice of natural stone, each product will be unique thanks to its irregular shades, thus lending additional authenticity to this material. Moreover, the format you select, whether rectangular slabs, crazy paving (opus incertum) or simply block steps, as well as steps and risers, will add its own aesthetic to the whole.

The finish (or texture) of a stone plays an essential role in its appearance. It is therefore essential to choose a finish that you like and that matches the style you want to give your outdoor space.

Our outdoor products are designed to be non-slip. It is important to note that the harder a natural stone is and the lower its porosity, the more pronounced the finish must be to ensure a non-slip surface (for example, a flamed texture for granite). It is also important to take into account the evolution of the finish over time. For example, some limestones may be slightly smooth when delivered, but they tend to become rougher over time.
