ALL ABOUT BLACK PEBBLES
Decorative black pebbles, ideal for gardens, pathways, and patios. Available in bags or bulk bags, they limit weeds and protect the soil. Their intense shade creates an elegant contrast with plants and wood. Order from Minéral Pierre Naturenelle for fast delivery and expert advice.
The black pebble is a decorative mineral product highly prized in landscaping. It suits a wide range of projects: garden, terrace, edging, flower bed, path or mineral composition. Made from natural rocks such as granite, marble, slate or volcanic stone, it comes in various dark shades ranging from anthracite gray to deep black.
Naturally rounded or worked, this pebble is appreciated for its smooth and contemporary look. It is packaged in 25 kg bags or in big bags, making it accessible to all types of projects, whether professional or private.
➡️ At Minéral, we offer the NOIR EBANO rounded gravel, a premium reference, available in 15/25 mm grain sizes and 40/60 mm, priced at €15.90 per bag or approximately €650 per big bag (1m³).
The black pebble appeals through its deep hue, which creates elegant contrasts in a mineral garden or around green plants. Combined with wood, white pebbles (see the full range) or red pozzolana, it enhances decorative areas with a graphic and structured look.
Beyond its aesthetics, it is also an excellent mineral mulch. Resistant to UV and to bad weather, it does not decompose, gives off no odor and requires almost no maintenance. It limits the growth of weeds, retains moisture and protects roots from cold.
Used in flower beds, planters, pots or borders, it fits perfectly into a sustainable outdoor landscaping and design approach.
☑️ Practical tip: lay the black pebbles on a woven fabric to prevent unwanted regrowth.
The quantity of pebbles to plan for depends on the area, the desired thickness (3 to 5 cm) and the chosen packaging: bag, 1/4, 1/2 or full big bag.
On average, allow 75 kg/m² for a thickness of 5 cm. For example, to cover 10 m² with a 4 cm thickness, you will need approximately 800 kg of pebbles, i.e. 32 bags of 25 kg or a little more than a 1/2 big bag.
➡️ Bag packaging is ideal for small areas or private individuals, whereas big bags are better suited to larger sites or landscaping professionals.
Minéral offers you a personalized quotation service and optimized logistics to guarantee fast and secure delivery, adapted to the size of your project.
For a successful installation, follow these steps:
- Prepare the ground: remove weeds, level and, if needed, add a drainage layer (sand or gravel) in case of damp or clay soil.
- Roll out a geotextile (woven or non-woven) to prevent regrowth and allow drainage.
- Pour the black pebbles in an even layer over a thickness of 3 to 5 cm.
- Level the surface using a rake or a flat tool.
- For pedestrian paths or walkways, you can reinforce the installation with a bed of mortar or a stabilizing joint compound.
This method guarantees a durable, erosion-resistant and easy-to-maintain result, whether in a garden, a path or a flower bed.
Regular maintenance is enough to preserve the shine and longevity of your black pebbles. We recommend:
- Removing leaves, dust and debris with a soft broom or a blower,
- Rinsing with clean water to prevent dust from dulling the color,
- Occasionally applying a suitable moss killer, especially in spring and autumn.
Products from the LITHOFIN range, for example, effectively prevent moss and organic deposits while respecting natural stone.
A few precautions to note:
- Very smooth black pebbles can be slippery, especially on wet surfaces or on a slope.
- Their dark color absorbs heat strongly: they can become scorching hot in the sun, which should be avoided around pools or areas where people walk barefoot.
- A natural discoloration may occur over time, particularly due to UV and without regular maintenance.
- Avoid non-specific products: some unsuitable chemical treatments can make pebbles sticky or slippery. Always prefer products designed for natural stone.
Our team of experts will guide you in choosing maintenance products, to maintain the quality and safety of your installations over time.
