Large-format stone-effect porcelain floor in Strasbourg

The project

In a renovated flat in the Robertsau district of Strasbourg, the owners wanted a continuous floor across the hall, open kitchen and living room, compatible with the underfloor heating installed during the works.

The choices

They chose Land Sand stone-effect tiles in 120 × 60 cm, whose sand colour brightens the room. The XXL Roche Écru format was also considered for the living room.

Large formats reduce the number of joints and make a room look bigger. In stone-effect porcelain, they combine the look of natural stone with very easy maintenance, and they are compatible with underfloor heating.

Installation

The tiles were laid by a local tiler in about ten days, on a new screed.

Large formats require a very flat substrate, back-buttering and preferably a levelling system to avoid lippage between tiles. It is a job for a tiler experienced with these formats.

The result

About 70 m² of seamless-looking floor, with few joints, unifying the living spaces.

Porcelain is easy to clean with water and an ordinary cleaner; it needs neither a water-repellent nor an anti-stain treatment.
