Super Black basalt pool deck and copings in Woustviller

The project

In Woustviller, the owners of a contemporary house wanted a pool with a graphic design and a dark deck contrasting with the white façade.

The choices

After seeing samples in our outdoor display in Woustviller, they chose Super Black basalt paving and copings.

The copings can be chosen in the same stone as the paving, for a seamless colour between the pool deck and the pool. Corner pieces, curves or special lengths can be made to measure in our workshop.

Basalt is a dense volcanic rock that resists frost. Its dark colour absorbs heat in the sun, which is worth considering for a south-facing deck.

Installation

A partner pool builder laid the copings and deck in about two weeks; the materials were collected directly from our Woustviller site.

Copings are laid on top of the pool wall with a slight overhang above the water and a gentle fall away from the pool, so that rainwater does not run back into it. Joints are made with a product compatible with treated pool water.

For a long-lasting terrace, the paving is laid on a stable, well-drained base with a fall of about 1.5 to 2 % to shed water, using an adhesive and grout designed for outdoor use and natural stone. Our in-store advisers can recommend the right installation products.

The result

About 55 m² of deck and 30 metres of black copings framing the pool with a clean line.

Basalt needs little maintenance: regular cleaning with water, plus a suitable cleaner when needed, is enough in most cases. A water-repellent treatment can limit limescale marks left by pool water.
