Saint Valmier limestone pool copings and deck in Lyon

The project

At a house west of Lyon, a pool built about fifteen years ago needed new copings. The owners took the opportunity to enlarge the deck.

The choices

They chose Saint Valmier limestone copings and paving, for a light, even deck.

Saint Valmier limestone has a light, even colour. Dense, low-porosity limestones of this kind are well suited to terraces and pool decks: sandblasted-brushed or tumbled finishes feel soft underfoot while remaining slip-resistant. The product page specifies frost resistance and recommended uses.

The copings can be chosen in the same stone as the paving, for a seamless colour between the pool deck and the pool. Corner pieces, curves or special lengths can be made to measure in our workshop.

Installation

A partner pool builder replaced the copings and laid the new deck in about two weeks, at the end of winter.

Copings are laid on top of the pool wall with a slight overhang above the water and a gentle fall away from the pool, so that rainwater does not run back into it. Joints are made with a product compatible with treated pool water.

For a long-lasting terrace, the paving is laid on a stable, well-drained base with a fall of about 1.5 to 2 % to shed water, using an adhesive and grout designed for outdoor use and natural stone. Our in-store advisers can recommend the right installation products.

The result

About 30 metres of copings and 50 m² of deck in a light stone that stays pleasant underfoot.

Like any limestone, this surface benefits from a suitable water-repellent sealer and cleaning with pH-neutral products; acidic cleaners should be avoided.
