All about MARBLE
Synonymous with luxury, marble has long been used in art, architecture, and sculpture. Nowadays, you can use it to furnish your interior space: flooring, cladding, washbasins... It brings a touch of elegance and refinement to your interior space.
A limestone rock, it is widely used in interior and exterior decoration and is often recognisable by its “polished” finish.
Available in various shades, this natural stone offers a wide range of colours (white, black, pink, beige, green, brown). It often has veins (marbling) or patterns in a different shade. This colour variation can be explained by the presence of minerals and impurities in the rock.
There are different varieties, each with its own particular features.
White Carrara marble: used by Renaissance sculptors, it is extracted from the quarries of Carrara in Italy. White in color, it was notably used to make Michelangelo's statue of David.
Guatemala green marble: originating from India and not from Guatemala, this dark green marble is highly prized in the field of decoration.
Emperador marble: recognizable by its brown color, with darker or lighter shades, it is extracted from quarries in Spain. It generally has lighter veins and patterns.
Antique red marble: red in color, it is also crossed by veins and patterns of a different color.
Belgian black marble: extracted from quarries in Belgium, it has a deep black color and has no veins or patterns.
Galala beige: extracted in Egypt, this natural stone has a cream or beige tint. It also has darker veins and is notably used outdoors.
Thassos marble: of a luminous, immaculate white, with no visible veins, this natural stone is a material of choice for luxury interior decoration projects. It originates from Greece.
Black Marquina marble: originating from Spain, it stands out for its deep black color and the presence of white veins and patterns.
This natural stone is marketed in various forms: paving, mosaic, cladding…
Minéral Pierre Naturelle also offers made-to-measure creations (washbasins, sinks…), to match all your wishes.
Thus, the price may vary depending on the type of marble used, its shape, its dimensions, its finish and its use.
To clean and maintain a marble floor indoors, you can first periodically use the product Lithofin Wash and Clean, diluted with water.
For a cladding, a mosaic or a marble basin, you can also use this product diluted with a little water and a sponge.
Next, for dirtier floors and surfaces (stains or dirt), the use of the product Lithofin Multi-Cleaner is recommended.
To protect against grease, oil and water stains, the product Lithofin Fleckstop is suitable. A very effective stain protection, its application prevents water, oil or grease from penetrating the stone. It is suitable for all types of surface: polished, rough or honed.
Different finishes can be applied to this natural stone. The following finishes are the most commonly offered.
Polished marble: this finish is the most commonly used. You can notably see this type of finish in palaces and hotels.
Honed finish (or velvet): this treatment of the stone produces a smooth, non-glossy surface, unlike the polished finish.
Aged finish: it gives the stone a rustic and vintage look. Indoors or outdoors, it creates a warm and authentic atmosphere. With more modern decor, it can create an interesting contrast.
Sandblasted finish: high-pressure sand is blasted onto the natural stone to give it a “sandblasted” look.
Solid natural stone, it is very resistant to scratches and heat.
There are many quarries located in different regions of the world.
The best known is the one in Carrara, Italy. The white Carrara marble has been used in many sculptures and historic buildings.
Quarries are also operated in Greece, notably on the small island of Thassos, whose marble is world-renowned for its immaculate whiteness.
In Europe, Belgium and Spain also produce this natural stone. Worldwide, Egypt, China, India and Brazil can be mentioned.
