2 cm stone-effect porcelain terrace in Metz

The project

At a house in a residential area of Metz, the existing concrete terrace was sound but stained and cracked on the surface. The owner wanted a covering that would not absorb barbecue stains and that he could lay himself.

The choices

He chose Waterfall stone-effect porcelain in 60 × 60 cm, 2 cm thick, after seeing it on display at our Thionville store.

2 cm thick porcelain is designed for outdoor use: being non-porous, it is unaffected by frost and stains and needs no sealing. It reproduces the look of stone with consistent colour from tile to tile and a slip-resistant surface (R11 on many models; check the product page).

Installation

The client laid the tiles himself on adjustable pedestals over the old terrace, over three weekends.

Thanks to its thickness, 2 cm porcelain can be bonded to a concrete slab, but also laid on adjustable pedestals or on a gravel bed, which simplifies some renovation projects. The method depends on the existing base.

The result

About 45 m² of terrace renovated without demolition, with a stone look and simple upkeep.

Porcelain is easy to clean with water and an ordinary cleaner; it needs neither a water-repellent nor an anti-stain treatment.
